About this webinar

Nature has long inspired architectural design, but increasingly it is influencing more than aesthetics alone. Advances in computational design, digital fabrication, materials technology, and structural engineering are enabling architects to study and apply the principles that govern natural systems to solve complex design challenges. From shells, plants, and geological formations to growth patterns and adaptive structures, nature provides a rich source of lessons for creating buildings that are efficient, resilient, expressive, and resource-conscious.

However, successfully translating natural systems into architecture requires more than biomorphic forms or visual references. Architects must understand how natural principles can inform structure, material performance, environmental response, fabrication, and construction. The challenge lies in transforming inspiration into buildable solutions that deliver technical, environmental, and experiential benefits while remaining commercially and practically viable.

This session explores how architects can use natural systems as a framework for innovation and design development. Participants will examine methodologies for studying natural phenomena, translating biological principles into architectural strategies, and integrating technical innovation with design intent. Drawing on projects that combine architecture, landscape, sculpture, and engineering, the webinar provides insight into how nature can become an active collaborator in the design process rather than simply a source of inspiration.
